Ongoing volunteer positions: If you’re looking for an impactful, ongoing volunteer placement, you might be a great fit for our Mobile River Program or Redbud Field-Trip Program. Volunteer teachers (“docents”) in the Redbud Program deliver fun, informative lessons to students during field trips – all outside, on the natural grounds of LCRA’s Wilkerson Center for Colorado River Education in West Austin. Most students in the Redbud Program are in 3rd-5th grade. The Mobile River Program moves around, bringing its water-science-center-on-wheels to middle schools across Central Texas. Hands-on activities in both programs educate students about water science, groundwater, urban watersheds, water quality, river stewardship, and water conservation. Our volunteers include people from many walks of life – parents, grandparents, working people, retired people, stay-at-home moms and dads, college students, and more.

No experience necessary! This is an opportunity for anyone who enjoys interacting with groups of young people. We are especially interested in volunteers who have some Spanish proficiency, since many of our students are native Spanish speakers. Our training and mentoring provide you with all the skills and materials that you need to become an excellent docent. Program hours: Monday – Friday during regular business hours, typically 8:30-1:30, with a minimum 5-hour commitment once a month. The Redbud Program operates Tuesday-Friday. Apply here!

If you are interested in volunteering in another way, such as Board service, communications support, or graphic design and editing, send us an email, and let’s discuss it.
