Development & Communications Assistant

Position Overview

We are seeking a thoughtful, energetic professional to join our team as a part-time Development & Communications Assistant.

The Development & Communications Assistant’s primary duties are:

  1. Assist in the creation of CRA’s annual communication campaign calendar and execute the plan using Mailchimp and social media (IG, FB, LI).
  2. Enter and maintain accurate data in eTapestry, create and maintain consistent, thoughtful donor communications (thank you letters).
  3. Support and attend CRA engagement events such as River Society events and mission-driven activations, community volunteer cleanups, and the Cocktails for the Colorado gala.

Communications

  • Develop, create, and manage CRA’s annual social media calendar and content.
  • Develop, create, and manage CRA’s annual newsletter calendar to include monthly newsletters and email campaigns.
  • Manage CRA’s Mailchimp account by maintaining an updated subscriber database.
  • Analyze email campaign and social media performance metrics to optimize future communications and inform CRA’s overall marketing strategy.
  • Manage volunteer communication to support the recruitment and stewardship of volunteers for cleanup events.
  • Collaborate with various departments within CRA to ensure consistent branding and messaging across all platforms.

Event Management

  • Manage River Society event logistics to include vendor relations, RSVP management, and in-kind contributions.
  • Assist the Development & Communications Director in the development and management of the annual Cocktails for the Colorado Gala and Kick-Off Party to include event logistics, in-kind contribution management, gala communications, and gala committee support as needed.
  • Represent the Alliance at tabling events, especially events to recruit new volunteers and supporters.

Development Administration

  • Manage CRA’s donor database, eTapestry, to ensure all donor data and gifts are entered correctly and effectively.
  • Support donor and funder stewardship by sending timely thank you notes and receipts.
  • Develop solicitation tools and approach local, small businesses for the annual Spring Cleanup and Lake Travis Cleanup event sponsorships and in-kind contributions.

General Alliance Responsibilities

  • Support CRA staff during events and programs, like the Lake Travis Cleanup, Cocktails on the Colorado Gala, and public-engagement efforts.
  • Be a team player and help with tasks associated with the running of a small office such as answering the phone, making copies, stocking the office, filing, keeping the kitchen area clean, coordinating meeting logistics, etc.
  • Occasionally take on non-traditional tasks as needed, such as running errands for events, participating in outdoor recreational programs, etc.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in communications and event management.
  • Experience managing social media platforms and developing content.
  • Graphic design experience is not required but preferred. Experience with Canva and Mailchimp preferred.
  • Ability to speak Spanish preferable, but not required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills as well as verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy (Word, Excel, basic website content administration and social media).
  • Favorable results of all necessary background checks.
  • Reliable transportation and the ability to drive to various locations around Austin and the surrounding areas for work-related meetings and activities.
  • Flexibility to work some weekends and evenings (only a few per year).
  • Position includes regular lifting of objects up to 40 lbs. and daily outdoor work.

Position Details

Pay range: $20/hr. This part-time position is not eligible for benefits.

Expected Start Date: February 19, 2025.

The position is expected to work 20-25 hours per week.

During holiday breaks or close to an event, hours per week will decrease or increase on an as-needed basis.

The part-time Development & Communications Assistant reports directly to the Development & Communications Director and works collaboratively with Alliance staff and volunteers.
