On Sunday, September 17 th , over 1000 volunteers removed more than 5 tons of trash from the
Colorado River at Lake Travis. This annual event is one of the largest single-day, volunteer lake
cleanups in the world, and it is a collaboration between the Colorado River Alliance, Travis
County Parks, and Keep Austin Beautiful. The Lake Travis Cleanup is also the largest annual
diving event in Texas, with dozens of scuba divers joining paddlers and people walking along the
shores to remove trash and debris from the river and its banks. In fact, the diving community
helped create this successful annual event 23 years ago!
