Lake Austin Cleanup

Colorado River Alliance is hosting our Fourth Annual Lake Austin Cleanup! Join CRA and it’s emerging conservation leaders group – The River Society – for a fun day on Lake Austin where volunteers will help remove litter and debris directly from the River by paddleboard, kayak, and land volunteer opportunities. CRA and The River Society are seeking one hundred volunteers to work safely to remove trash from the water and shoreline that feed into the Texas Colorado River and downstream towards Matagorda Bay on May 16th from 10am to 12pm.

The Lake Austin Cleanup is a participating cleanup of Trash Free Gulf, a Texas-wide initiative led by Gulf Trust with the goal to remove thousands of pounds of trash across the State of Texas in the month of May before litter and debris can float downstream to the Gulf.

The Fourth Annual Lake Austin Cleanup will begin at Mozart’s Coffee Roasters, where volunteers will gather before moving into volunteer shifts. Lake Austin Calm will provide 45 volunteers with complimentary access to paddleboards for the duration of the cleanup through their paddleboard rental company located at Mozart’s Coffee Roasters. LCRA Parks will provide more than 20 volunteers with complimentary access to single and double kayaks launched from Walsh Boat Landing. Volunteers may also participate as land volunteers, removing trash and debris from the watershed before it reaches the Texas Colorado River.

Registration is open! The Texas Colorado River supplies drinking water for 1.5 million people in Central Texas as well as providing us with opportunities to boat, fish, SUP, kayak, and enjoy water safely. Reserve your spot as a land or paddleboard volunteer to help keep our vital drinking water source clean and flowing for generations to come! All volunteers are encouraged to enter a photo contest and win prizes.
